Position Overview

Join the Agile Facilities Solutions (AFS) contractor team supporting the U.S. Secret Service (USSS) environmental, safety and Industrial Hygiene programs. This specialist supports inspections, exposure testing, documentation and workforce awareness, translating findings into clear reports and corrective-action recommendations. This is a contractor position, not Federal Government employment.

The contract labor category is Safety and Environmental Specialist. Working with the Industrial Hygienist and designated stakeholders, the specialist supports testing, inspections, documentation, metrics analysis and employee training across safety, environmental and IH programs.

Key Responsibilities

Safety & Industrial Hygiene Program Support

Support the Environmental, Safety and Industrial Hygiene programs by assisting the Industrial Hygienist with associated testing, documentation development, training and workforce awareness. Provide support across indoor air quality, lead exposure, hearing conservation, ventilation, respiratory protection, heat and cold stress, and radiation safety. Organize testing information and program documentation so findings can be reviewed and used in training and awareness activities.

Assist with safety inspections covering life safety, emergency equipment, confined spaces and field offices. Support hazardous communication (HAZCOM), incident investigations, powered industrial truck operation safety and general safety activities. Develop and maintain inspection and program documentation, prepare reports, analyze safety metrics, and help deliver training and awareness related to these safety areas.

Administrative & Technical Writing Functions

Develop program documentation, inspection reports and training and awareness materials. Analyze safety metrics and environmental data, assist requirements reviews, and communicate employee concerns and program findings through designated channels.

Facility Readiness & Environmental Planning

Assist facility readiness and resilience planning through environmental inspections, analysis and reporting, including greenhouse gas reports, metering plans, energy assessments and analysis of related data. Support environmental planning by assisting with management and review of environmental requirements for construction projects. Provide the associated documentation, training and awareness support needed to communicate environmental planning requirements and findings.

Environmental & Regulatory Compliance Support

Support environmental compliance activities addressing all significant environmental aspects through inspections, analysis, reporting, training and awareness. Review applicable environmental requirements and maintain supporting documentation for Government review. Assist with other environmental reporting and requirements reviews, respond to employee concerns through the designated program channels, and develop training and awareness materials that explain identified environmental issues and requirements.

Required Qualifications

A Bachelor of Science (BS) degree and at least eight years of experience in occupational health, workplace safety and environmental regulation fields are both required. Experience does not substitute for the degree. Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certification or equivalent credential is preferred.

The work calls for inspection documentation, data and metrics analysis, technical writing, training and effective stakeholder communication. U.S. citizenship and the pre-start Government suitability requirements below apply.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience supporting multidisciplinary IH and safety programs, facility environmental planning, and clear communication of inspection findings is desirable. Familiarity with organizing compliance documentation and tracking corrective actions is helpful. These preferences do not add certification, degree or experience minimums.

Work Environment & Schedule

Full-time, onsite, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Work is in Washington, DC and/or Laurel, Maryland, at USSS Headquarters, Washington, DC 20223. Federal holiday and closure arrangements follow Government guidance; this description does not establish paid leave or other benefits.
